Happy Happy Friday!

Well, as this post goes live, I'm probably on the boat coming back from a wonderful day showing some friends from Canberra the tropical island where I spent my childhood years.

Heidi has a fabulous Friday Mashup challenge for us all this week along with a great sketch, she is challenging us to recycle and reuse.  I'm afraid that time was limited for me with visitors, so I've opted out for an easy one and used old buttons.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my grandmother (who is sadly no longer with us) cutting out zippers and buttons from our old clothes, the ones that were not good to pass on to charity or handed down to those less fortunate.  All buttons, zippers or hooks etc which were still good were put in the button tin to be reused and the clothes themselves were put in the ragbag and used for cleaning and dusting or out in the shed for greasy and oily things.

I think women of my Grandmothers time were the ultimate recyclers!  Somehow we seem to have lost that in our 'throw away society' although there is a resurgance and people are becomming more aware of reusing items.

I've mixed the sketch up just a little moving the sentiment over to another panel.  Hope you like my inspiration card.  Check out the cards the design team have for you at the Friday Mashup Challenge blog.

Paper Lovin' Gals Number 3!!

Hi all and welcome to another Challenge from Paper Lovin' Gals.  What a great picture for us this week.

I don't have any halloween stamps (I think I've told you that before!), what I took  from this photo was 'silhouette' and the colours and came up with my inspiration card.

Pumpkin Pie and Black.  I've gone over the black with Crystal Effects and also coloured in some petals.  I added some bling in the form of silver and black rhinestones and it was done.  I couldn't figure out how I wanted a sentiment added so I decided not to add any!

Don't forget this week is the last one to add DT to your name when you enter the challenge.  Good Luck to all who are putting their hands up saying 'Pick Me'!

Head on over to the Paper Lovin' Gals challenge site and check out what the other DT members have for your inspiration.

Have fun, can't wait to see all your creations!

Yay it's Friday!

It's Friday and you all know what that means....yep another Friday Mashup challenge!  This week Kim brings us another great challege, slightly away from normal, which I love.

Kim is asking us to create a project that has a Belly Band, now if you're not sure what that is....it's a strip of card that wraps around the card like a belt!  It usually just slides easily off so you can open your card.  The Mashup option is to use twine.

  1. Make a project featuring "A Belly Band".
  2. Or Make a project using "Twine".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project "Using Twine with a Belly Band".
*For Directions on how to make a Belly Band there is a link to a tutorial on the Friday Mashup site.
(sorry I scheduled this post before the link went up!)

I made my card with no stamping at all!  It is very generic slightly masculine card which may end up with a sentiment when the time comes to give it to someone.

Here is a photo of the card open, I used lots of circles of both card stock and DSP to add some interest, I couldn't decide on which stamps I wanted to use so came up with that!  LOL it works for me!

Head on over to the Friday Mashup challenge blog and check out the creations the very talented Design Team has made for your inspiration.

Inspiration photo #2

Hello to all you crafty people out there, the Paper Lovin' Gals are bringing you our second inpsiration photo challenge and what a photo it is.

Those darn pumpkins kept leaping out at me, but as I'd done an orange card for the first challenge, I didn't want to repeat the colour, Halloween isn't celebrated in the same big way in Australia as it is in other parts of the world.

So what could I do?  Orange and green are not a favourite combo for me...then my eye was drawn to the barn in the background and the colours of Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler and Whisper White called to me to get creative.

This is my inspiration card for you.  I used lots of white gel pen on the large background image which was stamped in Cherry Cobbler on Crumb Cake, it's Bella Toile.  Then I embossed in white over the En Francais with Finest Flourishes the tag is more Bella Toile and I added a Rhinestone brad.  I also used some seam binding to make a tripple bow and secured it with an antique brad.  I'm really happy with the finished card.

I wonder what it is about this photo that will inspire your creation?

Don't forget the Design Team call is still open as we are looking for talented people to join us.  If you want to be in the running, when you post your challenge card put - DT, it's as easy as that!

Head on over to the Paper Lovin' Gals challenge site and see what inspiration you can gather from the Design Team.

Enjoy!

Easel card with snow flakes!

Hi all, welcome to a new Friday Mashup challenge, this week we are asking you to create something just a little different.

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project featuring "Snowflakes".
  2. Or Make an "Easel Card".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create an "Easel Card featuring Snowflakes".
*For Directions on how to make an Easel Card Click Here *

I've gone for the mashup this week and dragged out snowflakes from the Snow Swirled stamp set, one of my alltime favourite Stampin' Up! sets.  I have to say I was in my 40s before I actually saw real snow and it was quite magical!  Living in the tropics, we don't get much snow up this way...LOL

I've also used non traditional colours for a Christmas card and use the new Island Indigo and Perfect Plum with Whisper White, Silver metallic CS and silver embossing powder.  I love this combination together.

Here's the card closed (above), yes it does open from the left instead of the right!  and below, the card opened I have added some tiny rhinestones that I had in my stash, they have that ab coating and have a purpleish glow in certain light.  They are my tree decorations along with some clear rhinestones.

I really love the way this card came together.  In the final pic below you can see the silver embossed snowflakes more clearly

If you haven't been to the Friday Mashup Challenge Blog yet, hop on over there to check out the fabulous cards that the DT girls have created for your inspiration.

Paper Lovin' Gals goes LIVE!

Hello friends and welcome to the launch of this exciting new challenge site!

Paper Lovin' Gals will bring you some exciting inspiration photos each Thursday and you can make any project using any product just by drawing insiration from the photo and the Design Team inspiration projects each week.

This first photo is titled 'Country Living', I was inspired by both the colours and the layout of this picture and made up my inspiration card using the main elements of the wall, the jug and the vase of flowers.

I dragged the Tangerine Tango ink pad down the card stock a few times and this provided a lovely texture on the background card, then I used both Marina Mist and Bashful Blue cut out a vase and layered the daisys in a range of pinks and pink DSP Melon Mambo, Regal Rose and Pretty in Pink.

If you haven't visited Paper Lovin' Gals yet, head on over there and see for yourself what all the fuss is about!  The Design team have bought you some amazing projects to get you started.

Can't wait to see what you do with the inspiration you draw from our first challenge.

Stop Press:  It seems that I can't do a simple time conversion.....I've posted a couple of hours too soon, so that means my followers have a head start on creating!  I'll work it out by the time the next challenge goes live!

Mashup time again!

Hi there folks, another Fabulous Friday and that means another Friday Mashup challenge!

This week is bought to you by our very talented leader at the Friday Mashup the lovely Holly.  Don't you just love the graphic she has for us this week?

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :

  1. Make a "Halloween themed" Project.
  2. Or Make a Project using the colors: "Black, Pumpkin Pie, Lucky Limeade & Concord Crush".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Halloween project using the Colors listed above".
*With all of our Challenges that have a Stampin' Up! Color Combo, you may substitute any colors you have, with similar ones you have on hand.
As Halloween isn't as huge here in Australia as it is in other parts of the world, I don't really have many stamps in that theme so I've just gone with the colour combo and here is my inspiration card for you.

Head on over to the Friday Mashup Challenge blog and check out what the talented DT have created to inspire you!  Hope to see you joining in the fun!

Cheers.
